Weekly update #3, 28th of July, 2020.

Hello again!

Hi guys! I’m a day late for the weekly update, but with a good reason, I’d say. I’ve been in Germany since last Wednesday visiting a couple of museums and other places of interest here. Yesterday, I arrived in Laboe where you can find one of very few remaining Type VII/C U-Boats, U-995. I’ll be visiting it again tomorrow to grab some pictures and other information for our project. The days before that I was in Hamburg, where I visited the International Maritime Museum for the same purpose and also, just outside of Hamburg in Aumühle, the grave of Karl Dönitz (who, like a proper U-Boatman, took me a while to find).

Team expansion.

This week, we’ve also expanded the development team a little bit: Ada and Juplika (their nicknames) are joining us. Ada will assist with the more technical side, coding, and Juplika will help us with testing and finding bugs.

In-game changes.

Last week I announced that there will not be too many palpable changes in game for the next two/three weeks. We’re mainly focussing on squashing bugs, cleaning the unstable version up a bit, and the like. Marius did do a great deal of work on the the networking and such, making it possible to have two U-Boats in the same session now. This is yet another very big milestone for us, slowly bringing us closer to the moment where we make the transition from technical demo to playable demo.

In other news, I can announce that Marius has been working on a huge feature that you will not find in any other submarine simulator. I can’t go into any details yet on the how, what and when, but when it drops I’ll hope you’ll be as excited as I am about it.

Some bad news as well…

Well, bad news… we have made a slight adjustment in the developmental track. We’ve decided to work towards a so-called (for lack of a better word) ‘Kickstarter-version’ of the game; something that will still very much feel like a demo, but which will be playable to some extent. A sort of step in between what we have now and a proper, early access version. We wish to use such a version to run a Kickstarter campaign and generate funds for the project. The bad news being here is that the closer we get to that version, the closer we also get to the point where we can’t distribute the game for free anymore. We’re not there yet by far, but I thought it would be fair to let you guys know that at some point in the future, well, the honeymoon will be over. So before that, make sure to grab those early version here as soon as you can!

Questions?

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. I hope I can bring you some more fun stuff in the next update. ‘The soul would have no rainbow, had the eyes no tears.’- and such. Thank you all for your support. See you all next week!
